In the summer of 2017 I started the conversion of my Anet A8 3D printer to an AM8, essentialy replacing the flimsy acrylic frame of the printer with a new one made of aluminum profile extrusions. The conversion went well, and the robustness of the printer improved considerably. A few months ago, an accident in connecting a power cable caused the need to replace the motherboard.

The first major upgrade was to swap the Anet A8 original acrylic frame with an aluminum frame. As I mentioned in my previous post, the Anet A8 makes good prints out of the box, if assembled properly. The acrylic frame is not rigid enough to reduce the inherent wobble and vibrations of the Anet A8.

The bearings that came with the Anet A8 were completely shot, grinding and locking up during movement. As that made it impossible to even print, I replaced a lot of stuff during the conversion, switching to Igus Drylin bearings, rubber GT2 belts to replace the crap plastic ones, etc.

Anet A8 Metal Frame? I have had an anet a8 for a few years and have made a few small upgrades such as mosfets, PSU, glass bed, Marlin firmware and octoprint.
